old brass bell w/ silver chrome, vintage ship's bell, signal bell or dinner bell?

Old unmarked brass bell with chrome or nickel plated finish... this is a nice large bell with a beautiful clear tone. We wish we knew the origins and history of this one!

It's 8" in diameter across the bottom rim, and about 4" in height. There's some scratching and wear to the silver colored finish, and a tiny bit of rust streaking at the top where the steel screw 'bled' on to the rust proof bell.
