very large carved stone bowl, red jasper picture quartz or marbled onyx?

Beautiful very large carved stone bowl, 9 1/2" across the rim, very very heavy. There's a few scratches left from the manufacturing process, and a few natural flaws to the stone.

This isn't marked, and we have no idea as to its vintage or origins, though it's a hard stone like a quartz or an onyx. We've been looking at photos of types of stones and minerals, but natural stones are all different, and it seems impossible for us to identify positively.
