vintage brass clad porcelain bowl ashtray hand painted Canton Ware Hong Kong

Mid-century vintage Hong Kong 'Canton Ware' bowl, hand painted Japanese porcelain with brass exterior.

This is marked on the bottom as shown - apparently made as an ashtray, but it's a stunning decorative piece of chinoiserie, and doesn't look as though it's ever been used as an ashtray.

It's 7 3/4" in diameter, very heavy. Brass is pleasingly tarnished, china is in excellent condition.
