vintage metal jewelry casket / trinket box with enameled design, honeybees on red

Vintage Japan enameled metal trinket box with honey bees design, very french! This is lined in red velvet, and measures about 6 3/4" long.

There's a few spots of wear and an ugly stain to the cover with the enamel work which we've been afraid to try to clean, looks like a dark ring from a perfume bottle, makeup or nail polish?
