vintage salt and pepper shakers, plastic parakeets or parrot birds on a branch

Pair of little plastic parrots or budgies on a branch - these are vintage salt and pepper shakers, one shaker still full of salt! The stopper seems stuck, like the salt has gotten hard inside. I'm afraid to soak these for fear of damaging the birds. I've left these just as they are, they're still so sweet for display. Wouldn't they look great in a tiny birdcage?
