vintage sewing tool, figural tin whale art punch needle for embroidery

This nice old metal punch needle is marked Whale Art Co. - St. Louis, and measures 1 3/4" long over the shank, 5" long overall. The tin is clean and nice without spotting, and this looks to us to be in fine working condition, though we aren't handy with punch needles, and have never learned russian embroidery.
