vintage tick covers & bed sheets, old cotton flour feed sack fabric
more photos of this product belowPrimitive old cotton covers for feather filled ticks (the comforters, duvets and even mattresses of yesteryear!). These came out of an old farm house in rural Illinois, where they'd been stored away for many years. These are pieced of old cotton flour and feedsacks, plain unbleached white.
There are several flat sheets, measuring 76" x 74", 76" x 79", 72" x 76", and 64" x 80" (this one has remains of the original printing on the sacks). All of these have some major rips, some smaller holes, and brown water spots. The edges are unhemmed (these would have turned under the mattress, so no one ever bothered to hem them).
There's a cover made like like a giant pillowcase (knife edge) , measuring 66" x 82". It's made to close with buttons at one end. This is showing it's age, with some wear and some brown spotting, and a few old white paint drips. This is all made of sacks.
There's a cover made like like a giant pillowcase with a gusseted panel, measures 50" x 49" x 6 1/2". It closes with buttons at one end. No holes, a few light spots. It's all made of sacks, too.
There's a handmade cotton feedsack fitted sheet (with side panels). This is the one edged in blue. Measures 41" wide x 85" long x 7" at the side panel. (The size sounds crazy, but we've seen the long narrow old iron beds this would fit - they're generally called hired man beds!) This has some spots, no holes, has a few areas where it's coming unstitched.
There's a pillowcase style cover with a gusseted panel, measures 53" x 77" x 6 1/2" deep, closes with a zipper, which dates this to depression era or later, the newest piece in this lot. It's made of muslin yardage, not single sacks sewn together, and it's in the best condition by far, no rips or holes, no spots.
