antique cast iron finial for fence gate or flagpole ornament, heavy round orb dug found artifact

Really rough, really old cast iron ornament from a fence or a flag pole? There's no markings on this piece, I don't know a lot about it. It's made to fit a 1 1/4" or 1 3/8" rod, but would need quite a bit of cleaning and descaling, this looks like a piece dug up out of the ground or a scrap pile! It makes an interesting piece just to stand as it is on those little feet.
