Primitive old antique billhook or brush axe with a curved blade and a newer hickory handle. This brush axe is from an old farm estate and measures about 32" long from the top of the axe head to the butt of the handle. The iron hook measures about 10.5" long and 6" wide (from the tip of the billhook over the iron straps).
The top strap that forms the eye of the axe head was forge welded to the blade by a blacksmith with a hammer and anvil. The lower strap and the axe handle are both newer replacements. The axe head has a patina of age and rust, and there is a little mushrooming to the back of the bill.
